A Different Approach to Learning:  Corporate Express Case Study

AIM’s training philosophy is based on a combination of understanding ‘what to do’ and ‘how to do it’. This presentation focuses on the training partnership between Corporate Express and AIM and presents a case-study on how the management training was developed, implemented and evaluated.

In 2005 Corporate Express Australia Limited invited AIM to develop a management training program for 160 staff across Australia. This program is targeted at frontline and operational staff, involving supervisors, team leaders and business unit managers. This comprehensive program (based on the accredited Frontline Management Program) was delivered throughout 2006 and will conclude in late 2007.

The key objective of the management training is to improve productivity and management performance at the frontline/customer interface and to provide real returns to the Corporate Express bottom line. This action-oriented program enables participants to gain personal insights and experiences through self assessment, group interaction, case-studies and problem solving activities.

Formal assessment of training and the acquisition of a qualification is important to Corporate Express. Workplace projects are a central part of the learning process and provide an opportunity to directly apply new knowledge and skills to the workplace. The value adding projects are assessed providing the primary evidence of competence for the Frontline Management Certificate IV qualification.

The presentation of the Corporate Express case-study will be undertaken by AIM’s Organisational Learning Manager and a representative from Corporate Express.
