Official Launch

The Australian Institute of Management’s March Breakfast Briefing celebrated learning from legends, highlighted how leaders prevail through adversity and launched the AIM Management Convention being held in Sydney from 16 – 19 September 2007.

David Huey, Managing Director of lead sponsor Atradius and Convention ticket winners, James O’Donnell from Westpac and Karen Donovan from the Department of Veteran Affairs launched the AIM Management Convention with a shower of green and blue balloons.

The Convention is the pre-eminent management event of 2007 featuring almost 40 world-class speakers making the breakfast an ideal place for the launch as the Convention fits perfectly with the breakfast’s theme of ‘learning from legends’.

The morning featured former Wallaby captain John Eales and Paralympic Gold medallist Louise Sauvage.

Eales shared the inspiration behind his new book, ‘Learning from Legends’, a collection of interviews with sporting greats who share their powerful stories of persistence through adversity, the ability to deal with pressure and maintain a balanced life.

When Eales asked Sauvage, “What are the key aspects of leadership that can’t be compromised?” Sauvage responded, “Be strong, know who you are and believe what you do. Move forward, and no matter what the barrier, know there’s always a way around it. And be a good role model and get out there.”

Eales and Sauvage are a testament to the Convention’s theme of ‘AIM High!’ as both have achieved phenomenal success in their careers and are inspirations to all Australians.

Like these outstanding sports people, the Convention speakers encourage individuals to focus, strive for excellence and achieve through persistence.

Eales summed it up perfectly, “It’s how you prepare when nothing matters which determines how well you’re prepared when everything matters.” The AIM Management Convention provides the opportunity to prepare and learn from the leaders.
